Spiritual Sundays 3

Oh! to be like Jesus!
Everyday I pray that I may be more like my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Oh! to love like Jesus! He loved us, to the end and give His all for us! Sinners who are not deserving and often to ungrateful. (Romans 5:8, John 13:1)
Oh! to have servant's heart like Jesus! He is the Master, and yet He became the lowly servent. (John 13:1-17)
Oh! to pray like Jesus! (John 17, Matthew 6:9-13)
Oh! to be intolerant of sin like Jesus! And to keep God's house and my house and my temple (body) clean of all that is unpleasing and evil in the Lord's sight! (Matthew 21:12-13, John 2:12-17)
How wonderful to have a close and deep relationship with our Heavenly Father! (John 17: 20-23, John 10:30)
Oh! to live like Jesus! That I may live a life commited to my Lord, honoring and serving my Lord. Oh! to be able and willing to do His good will, always in all things! Oh! to be like Jesus, to say, "Not my will, but Yours Lord!" To give my all to Him and let Him work out His plan in my life! (Matthew 26:39)
Oh! to be a good example, like Jesus! That all may see Him, instead of me, that I may shine for Him and maybe lead some lost, hurting soul to Him! (1 Peter 2:21)
Oh! to be humble, like Jesus! Oh! to be pure, righteous, meek and gentle! To think like Jesus! And have His wisdom! (Philippians 2:5 and8, Colossians 3:2-3 & 10, Philippians3:7-9,Philippians 4:8)
Oh! to be like Jesus! (Ephesians 5:1&2)

Praising the Lord,
Hannah

"Oh! to Be Like Thee"
Thomas O. Chisholm

"Oh! to be like Thee, blessed Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,Jesus,
Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Refrain:
Oh! to be like Thee, oh! to be like Thee,
Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

Oh! to be like Thee, full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wand’ring sinner to find.

Oh! to be like Thee, lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer, others to save.

Oh! to be like Thee, Lord, I am coming,
Now to receive th’ anointing divine;
All that I am and have I am bringing,
Lord, from this moment all shall be Thine.

Oh! to be like Thee, while I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love,
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and Heaven above."

"Stepping in the Light"
words: Eliza E. Hewitt music: William J. Kirkpatrick

Trying to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Trying to follow our Savior and King;
Shaping our lives by His blessèd example,
Happy, how happy, the songs that we bring.

Refrain
How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Stepping in the light, stepping in the light,
How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Led in paths of light.

Pressing more closely to Him Who is leading,
When we are tempted to turn from the way;
Trusting the arm that is strong to defend us,
Happy, how happy, our praises each day.
Refrain

Walking in footsteps of gentle forbearance,
Footsteps of faithfulness, mercy, and love,
Looking to Him for the grace freely promised,
Happy, how happy, our journey above.
Refrain

Trying to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Upward, still upward, we follow our Guide;
When we shall see Him, “the King in His beauty,”
Happy, how happy, our place at His side.
Refrain

I do not know the songs below, but the lyrics and music are beautiful! Enjoy!

"More like the Master"
Words and music by Charles H. Gabriel 1906

"More like the Master I would ever be,
More of His meekness, more humility;
More zeal to labor, more courage to be true,
More consecration for work He bids me do.

Refrain
Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone;
Take Thou my heart, and make it all Thine own.
Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore,
Wash me and keep me Thine forevermore.

More like the Master is my daily prayer;
More strength to carry crosses I must bear;
More earnest effort to bring His kingdom in;
More of His Spirit, the wanderer to win.
Refrain

More like the Master I would live and grow;
More of His love to others I would show;
More self denial, like His in Galilee,
More like the Master I long to ever be."
Refrain

"More like Jesus would I be"
words: Fanny Crosby music:W.Howard Doane

"More like Jesus would I be, let my Savior dwell with me;
Fill my soul with peace and love—make me gentle as a dove;
More like Jesus, while I go, pilgrim in this world below;
Poor in spirit would I be; let my Savior dwell in me.

If He hears the raven’s cry, if His ever watchful eye
Marks the sparrows when they fall, surely He will hear my call:
He will teach me how to live, all my sinful thoughts forgive;
Pure in heart I still would be—let my Savior dwell in me.

More like Jesus when I pray, more like Jesus day by day,
May I rest me by His side, where the tranquil waters glide.
Born of Him through grace renewed, by His love my will subdued,
Rich in faith I still would be—let my Savior dwell in me."

  1. To be more like Jesus should be the goal of every Christian. We sang the songs you posted for many many years. In recent years it has been mostly contemporary songs. It's a shame today's generation will never learn so many of these old songs.
    I'm glad you're participating in Spiritual Sundays.
