Spiritual Sunday 2

I love the beautiful old hymns! They touch the soul and the heart! They reach deep down into you and pull out the love and praise for our Lord and Savior! I have many memories of getting together with friends and family and singing hymns! My family use to have a lot of friends over one Sunday ever so often, when the weather was good and we would all sit out in lawn chairs singing!
How these hymns revive ones heart and soul! They have and continue to touch so many lives. I enjoy reading stories behind the hymns and about the writers of the hymns. They are truly touching and amazing! Some of my favorite hymns are "Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus", "A Beautiful Life", "O Thou Fount of Every Blessing", "Jesus is Calling", "There is a Fountain", "Trust and Obey", "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", and of course "Amazing Grace"! I can imagine my Grandpa singing "The Lord My Shepherd Is" and when ever I hear "Seeking the Lost" I remember the singing we had one time when my Uncle "Grandpa Rocks" was at our house! There are many special memories with so many hymns! I am sure many stand out to each of us, whether they have touched us personally or carry special memories! Songs, mostly hymns have always been a big part of my life. A lot of my growing up we didn't have radios and cd's, tv or any of that stuff. But we did sing a lot and most of the songs we learned were hymns! We need to teach them to our children and pass them on, so that they will continue to be remembered, and inspire and encourage others! They are not out of date, these are timeless! They are filled with praise and many are inspired from God and the scriptures! God loves to hear our praise and worship for Him! Oh to have a heart, mind, and soul filled with praise for Him! He gives you joy, He puts a song into your heart! Give Him the glory! Sing Him a hymn!

Because He Lives,
Hannah

Please take the time to sing some Hymns today!
I have added two songs on here and part of two other songs. I hope you enjoy.

I will Sing the Wonderous Story
Words: Francis H. Rowley, 1886 Music: Peter P. Bilhorn, 1886

I will sing the wondrous storyOf the Christ Who died for me.
How He left His home in gloryFor the cross of Calvary.

Refrain
Yes, I’ll sing the wondrous storyOf the Christ Who died for me,
Sing it with the saints in glory,Gathered by the crystal sea.
I was lost, but Jesus found me,Found the sheep that went astray,
Threw His loving arms around me,Drew me back into His way.

Refrain
I was bruised, but Jesus healed me,Faint was I from many a fall,
Sight was gone, and fears possessed me,But He freed me from them all.

Refrain
Days of darkness still come o’er me,Sorrow’s path I often tread,
But His presence still is with me;By His guiding hand I’m led.

Refrain
He will keep me till the riverRolls its waters at my feet;
Then He’ll bear me safely over,Where the loved ones I shall meet.

Refrain

I will Sing of my Redeemer
Words: Philip P. Bliss, 1876 Music: James McGranahan, 1877

I will sing of my Redeemer,And His wondrous love to me;
On the cruel cross He suffered,From the curse to set me free.

Refrain
Sing, oh sing, of my Redeemer,With His blood, He purchased me.
On the cross, He sealed my pardon,Paid the debt, and made me free.
I will tell the wondrous story,How my lost estate to save,
In His boundless love and mercy,He the ransom freely gave.

Refrain
I will praise my dear Redeemer,His triumphant power I’ll tell,
How the victory He givethOver sin, and death, and hell.

Refrain
I will sing of my Redeemer,And His heav’nly love to me;
He from death to life hath brought me,Son of God with Him to be.

Refrain

He Keeps Me Singing
Words & Music: Luther B. Bridgers

There’s within my heart a melody Jesus whispers sweet and low,
Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still,In all of life’s ebb and flow.

Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,Sweetest Name I know,
Fills my every longing,Keeps me singing as I go.

Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
Words: Henry J. van Dyke, Music: Hymn to Joy, from the 9th Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven

verse1
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!

verse4
Mortals, join the happy chorus, which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o’er us, brother love binds man to man.
Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward in the triumph song of life.

  1. Wonderful. I love your thoughts. I feel exactly the same. My wife and I grew up singing these wonderful hymns. Our Sunday service is called a blended service but it is mostly contemporary music. I love some of the contemporary songs but not as much as the hymns and some of it I can't stand. I just tolerate it. Thank you posting.

  2. Hi! The first comment is not from Charlotte it is from me--Clif. Charlotte is my wife and I forgot that I was sitting at her computer when I sent my comment. Sorry. I wanted to correct this because she may make a comment later and it would confuse you. You have a great blog.

  3. This time it really is me - Charlotte. lol
    I think the remarks that Clif made under my name could have been made by me except that I think I like the contemporary songs better than he does. Some of them I just tolerate too but some of them I really really like. we still go around the house singing the old hymns occasionally and also when we're driving in the car. We both love to sing. I do think today's generation is missing out by not learning and singing the songs that we grew up with. Time changes everything.
    Thanks for sharing with us today.

  5. The old hymns are songs of scriptures. Men and Women of years gone by, struggled with all kinds of bad stuff too (just like we do today). Never did they know that God would use their written words and music to minister to our generation. I so enjoy singing them today. Thanks for the reminder of old hymns.
    Bless you and yours,
