Spiritual Sundays 4

"Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as front lets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth."
Deuteronomy 11:18-21
"That the generation to come might know them,The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,
That they may set their hope in God,And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments."
Psalms 78:6&7

As a young, homeschooling, Christian mother, I am trying to teach my children every day about God and His love. I have great joy in hearing Princess S. sing the children's Sunday school songs and see her eagerness to learn more about Jesus! We read a Bible story everyday and she is always full of questions! I feel the need to learn more about God and His word so that I am more prepared to answer her many questions and explain to her things so that she is able to understand them well.
I have many areas where I need to grow, so that I am better prepared to teach my children well! I pray that I am a good, godly, teacher to our children, and that I teach what is pleasing and honouring to God.
I pray that I am a good example to my children. I pray that they see the importance of God in my life and want God in their lives, too. I pray that they have pure hearts and minds and that God guides and directs their paths and keeps them in the palm of His Mighty Hand!
As parents, and grandparents it is important that we cling to our God and Saviour and seek His will and guidance so that we may be a light to the children in our lives, shining for Jesus, so that they may always see clearly, the path to Him.
Growing up with controlling parents has also helped me see the dangers of forcing someone to do or believe as we do. This is not healthy to young hearts and minds. God is not forceful. God stands at the door and knocks, He does not press in, knock the door down or force Himself into our lives. He waits with open arms! So we must not force God upon our children. We should teach Him lovingly, gently, patiently.
Pray for the children in your life.
Pray with the children in your life! Family prayers, bedtime prayers, mealtime prayers! When children see your praise and respect, they will follow you. Remember, children learn more by example!
Today, I will sing songs of praise to God, read a Bible story, read my own Bible, say a prayer with and for my children, and probably recite a memory verse, with my children watching or joining in! Please teach God lovingly and by example to your children. He has blessed you with these children and He wants to be close to them, love them and wants them to love Him to!
In Christ,
Hannah

"Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger."
Psalms 8:2
"We will not hide them from their children,Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done." Psalms 78:4

  1. What wonderful advice this is. I think home schooling is a wonderful thing now that the Bible and prayer are outlawed and God cannot even be mentioned in our schools. I'm a little surprised that the government allows it. Makes me think that God has put it in the minds and hearts of the parents who are home schooling their children to do just that.
Thanks for sharing this with us today.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  2. It's good to pray to be a Christ-honoring example to your children. Example is the way children learn. Happy Spiritual Sunday.

  3. You know I always enjoy reading your blog. Wanting to teach your children all the right things is at least half the battle. Sally is right... living the example is the best way for your children to learn. My grandmother taught me everything I know about living a Christian life, and it was through her gentle leading, and her wonderful example that I learned. What a precious gift you are to your family.

  4. I will just say "Amen" to what Charlotte my wife said, and add that as a Pastor I had years of association with Christian schools: pre-school, one up through Jr. High, and I and our two children are graduates of Christian Universities. But today, I feel that home schooling is better. What will your children do about higher education beyond High School?

  5. Your post and the Deu. scriptures reminded me of when I was in Israel observing a lot of men with their kids, in parks, busses, etc. I was so happy to see fathers as well as mothers parent their kids. It was good for my husband to see.Have a great Sunday!

  6. Perfect example you are giving your children. When my grandchildren ask me a question about God I want to answer the right way and the best way that I can so that they can understand, so that it's not too complicated for their little minds. I bought a book called

205 questions Children Ask about God, Heaven and Angels. I bought it on Amazon books for only $2.50. I love this book I will use it often.

    God Bless,

    Ginger
