Spiritual Sunday--5

In my Bible reading today, while reading Luke chapter 11, I came across these words that Jesus spoke to the crowds:
"The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.” Luke 11:34-36
It made me think about the darkness in ones life. How much darkness is in my life? What areas in my life do I need to work on? Dark is the absence of light, therefore whatever areas of my life are dark, it is because the light is absent! When there is darkness it is always very dark! how ugly to pick up an apple and find one side of it completely black with rottenness! The apple must be discarded before it goes to complete mush and ruins other apples around it! We must remove the blackness/darkness from our lives before we turn to mush and cause others around us to become black with dark spots too! This is very harmful! Thankfully though, unlike apples, we can be made new again! We can be cleansed, and light can replace that which was once dark!
One of the first verses that popped up in my mind after reading and thinking about Luke 11:34-36 was Philippians 4:8
"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."
This is verse I think of often, in reminding myself what ought to be thought of, talked about and meditated on! If we live by this and God's beautiful laws and His word to us, we can be "full of light, having no dark part"! How wonderful that is! Praise the Lord! He is the light and in Him we can find light and become a light for Him! May we walk worthy of this high calling-to be a light to the world!
Shine! God is Good!
Shining for Jesus,
Hannah

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." Ephesians 5:8
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."Matthew 5:14-16
"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:7
"I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness." John 12:46
"Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12

  1. Great post. It made me think back to Vacation Bible Schools of the past. I've noticed we don't sing it so much now, but we used to always sing, "This little light of mine,I'm gonna let it shine..." Thanks for your good words.

  2. The example of the apple is good. I would rather influence others for good and not rottenness for sure. I'm keeping my eyes on Jesus and I know you are too. Have a great day.
